Chris earned B.S. in Biology and Environmental Science and then a Masters in Educational Administration. After having taught for a number of years, she became assistant principal of Freeport High School in 1991, a position she has now held for 21 years. She has served on a number of boards and committees of the Maine Principals’ Association and, for 5 years, was director of the Maine Principals’ Academy.
Chris’ husband, Michael, works for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs in Augusta. Michael was a career Navy officer. Chris was a Navy Reserve officer for 8 years herself. They have two children, a freshman and a junior in high school. Michael has been a scout leader and Chris was a summer camp director for some 9 years.
Chris attended Catholic schools herself as a child including high school in PA. In her interview, explaining her decision to apply for this job, she spoke of her love of Catholic education and that she was now “coming full circle” by returning ion this new capacity. Both Michael and Chris are active members of their parish in Brunswick. Chris and Michael have been Eucharistic Ministers. Michael was a Catholic Lay Leader in the Navy. They have volunteered in various capacities: staffed the coffee and donut table after Masses, organized spaghetti suppers for the parish, attended Lenten Friday suppers. Chris organized the Christmas pageant for the parish for grades K-4 for the parish for 5 years. They supported St. Charles Snowflake Festival building bird houses with young children, and volunteered in other capacities in the Christmas Fair. Their two children attended St. John’s School in Brunswick for K-8 and Chris served on the School Board of St. John’s. The two kids are now enrolled at St. Dominic’s Academy in Auburn. As Chris says, “Not a day goes by that we are not reminded of a reason we are glad our children are at St. John’s and St. Dom’s.”
