Knit a shawl individually or within a group. Receive basic knitting or crocheting instructions and prayers to get started. If you do not know how to knit or crochet, we would be happy to show you how or perhaps, you can donate some yarn to make a shawl. We need at least three skeins of yarn to knit a prayer shawl. Prayer shawls are annually blessed at Mass. Then, they are distributed to those who are in crisis, so that their prayers and ours may bring them comfort and spiritual healing.
If you need a prayer shawl to give to someone in need, please contact Kathy Sparda at St. Maximilian Kolbe or take one from the back of St. Bartholomew church near the devotional space. They have a tag attached describing where it was made. There are also prayer cards available for you - one for comfort and one for healing. At St. Bartholomew, please write in our journal, the date, and describe the situation of the person receiving the shawl, so that when we gather, we can pray for that individual.
Knitters meet every other Thursday @ 9AM in Room 4 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church. “Shawls have been made for centuries, a universal and embracing symbol of an inclusive, unconditionally loving God. They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and beautify. Those who have received these shawls have been uplifted and affirmed, as if given wings to fly above their troubles...." Janet Bristow, Founder of Prayer Shawl Ministry.
